“Crikey! It’s my first blog post!”

Hey there! My name is Holly Weiss and I’m a senior at the University of Oregon majoring in Public Relations. As someone involved in communications, I believe it is important to be able to have a space where you can freely write and express your opinions on topics that really matter to you. While this may be my first personal blog site, it is not the only blogging content I have produced. Being a Jewish student on the University of Oregon, I have been featured on the Oregon Hillel’s website blogging about Omer – a Jewish holiday and how it incorporates into my life. Along with that, I am currently an ambassador and social media coordinator for a swimsuit boutique called Bikini Hut, where I contribute to their social media websites and have written a few blog posts for them regarding traveling and vacation. As my first blog post on my own site, I would like to give you an introduction to the topics I will be writing about and why they matter to me!

Back in elementary school, I would wake up early in the morning and run to the couch so I could watch Steve Irwin on Animal Planet before getting on the bus and heading to school. I remember yelling “Crikey” at the television as he encountered wild animals and would educate me on the different species. Ultimately, Steve Irwin taught me how even though some animals can be dangerous, all animals should be treated with equal respect, caution and kindness. It is because of him that I have grown up with a huge love and a passion for animals and it is because of him that I have chosen to contribute this blog site to animal welfare and my take on the current news that surrounds the topic. Looking at it through a PR lens, this topic covers many issues; from the way the chickens are raised before you dive into that bucket of KFC all the way to how dogs are treated when filming for movies.

Now that I have my own blog site, I am looking forward to learning and writing more blog posts about my passions with you following along!
